The first step is to do your research on the product that you are looking for. Is it a product that is available from several manufactures? If so, it would be best to use your favorite search engine and put in your product name consumer reports. Some shopping comparison sites like Amazon and Google also have rating’s and reviews from consumers that have purchased thru their sites. It is always best to read thru consumer written reviews and find out what type of experiences the consumer is having with a product.

Once you know exactly what you are looking for you can start with using some shopping comparison search sites like eBay, Amazon, or Google Shopping. These are a great place to start because retailers have to submit a feed to the search engine in order to be listed. Many of them also use a proprietary search algorithm to determine what results to display first, along with the option to view retailers by price. This will eliminate many of the junk results that you can get with other shopping comparison sites or search engines.

You can also use product-sourcing products that are designed for people that are looking to resell products for a profit. These will have an upfront charge to use their site, or service. Many sites will charge anywhere from $50 – $100 per quarter for membership access. You can quickly recoup your investment if you are looking to make a substantial purchase.

When searching using any of the methods above, be sure to use several variations on the keywords that you are using to find your products. Not all sites will put the model number on their site for example. Search with and without the manufactures name as well. I have had good results when searching for the manufacture name along with the part number if available.

When you share your information online to make a purchase, make sure it is secure. Before you submit your credit card information to any site look in the address bar and be sure that is says “https” not “http”. If there is only an http in the address bar, then you are about to send your information over a connection that is not secure. When an https is displayed, that means the site is using encryption technology to transmit your valuable personal information.

Keep your information secure, and surfing for bargains online will be an enjoyable experience.
